Bayern score twice in 3 minutes to beat AEK Athens

The German champions ended a league run of no wins in four against Wolfsburg last weekend, and on Tuesday goals from Javi Martinez and Robert Lewandowski ensured a second successive victory.

Bayern Munich scored twice in three minutes as they beat AEK Athens in the Champions League to further ease the pressure on coach Niko Kovac. Martinez opened the scoring with a scissor-kick finish in the 61st minute. Lewandowski tapped home two minutes later from Rafinha’s low cross.

Kovac, recruited in the summer, has received backing from the Bayern board despite his side’s indifferent start to the domestic campaign. However, the Croat admitted there had been “a lot of pressure” going into the game against Wolfsburg.

The five-time European champions have seven points from three games, jointly leading Group E with Ajax who have an identical goal difference. The Dutch side secured a 1-0 win over Benfica thanks to a 92nd-minute goal from Noussair Mazraoui, whose deflected drive beat keeper Odisseas Vlachodimos.

Elsewhere, Group H sides Young Boys and Valencia drew 1-1. The Spanish side took the lead through on-loan Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi, who rounded goalkeeper Marco Wolfli and slotted home in the 26th minute.

Guillaume Hoarau equalised from the spot for the Swiss side after Djibril Sow had been brought down by Daniel Parejo.

Young Boys are bottom of Group H, one point behind Valencia. Manchester United are second with four points after their 1-0 home loss to Juventus, who maintain their 100% record.

Dzeko scores another two for Roma

Lyon were denied the chance of leading in Group F as substitute Joelinton’s 92nd-minute tap-in earned Hoffenheim a 3-3 draw.

Former Leicester forward Andrej Kramaric scored twice for the Germans, while Bertrand Traore, Tanguy NDombele and Memphis Depay got on the scoresheet for the French club.

Manchester City lead the group with six points, one more than Lyon, following their 3-0 victory at Shakhtar Donetsk.

Roma lead Group G on goal difference from Real Madrid following their 3-0 win over CSKA Moscow. Striker Edin Dzeko followed up his hat-trick against Viktoria Plzen with two more goals.

Real also have six points after recorded a 2-1 victory over Plzen at the Bernabeu.
