The Western Cape disaster management centre has been activated on a small scale due to ongoing fires on the Outeniqua Mountains.
Firefighters are trying to contain the wildfires in the Waboomskraal area.
In the past ten days, four people have died and more than 3,000 people have been left homeless by separate fires across the province.
Last year, runaway blazes in Knysna killed seven people and gutted hundreds of homes.
Smouldering backburns and wind have now pushed the fires to the George CBD.
As a result of smoke, motorists and residents in George are urged to be cautious and keep their windows closed.
Donations towards the firefighting efforts can be made to the George Fire Brigade.
